abstract = "Vitoria Bay Estuarine System SEBV (42.9 km2), in the metropolitan
area of Vit{\'o}ria (ES), receives the drainage of ten river
basins (1.925 km2). In 2010, there were 1,159,350 inhabitants in
the watershed, 400 % more than in 1970. Municipalities located in
the Vitoria metropolitan have fostered the fast development of the
drainage basin. As a consequence the basin development has driven
intensive land use changes in the watershed. In order to assess
land use changes between 1987 and 2013, Landsat 5 TM and 8 ETM+
satellite imagery, respectively, were classified for land use.
Results shown that has been a decrease in natural and in
semi-naturalareas, forest and cropland/pastureland areas,
respectively, and a significant increase in urban-industrial
areas. The current land use setting increases land-based nutrients
emissions, impairing water quality in estuarine system.",
